New principals have been named at Ogle Elementary School and Spears Elementary School.

The Frisco ISD board of trustees approved contracts for several positions across the district, including principals for two of its elementary schools during an April 4 meeting.

Stephen McCarty, who joined Frisco ISD in 2014, will take on principal duties at Ogle Elementary in the 2023-24 school year. He currently serves as assistant principal at Curtsinger Elementary School.

Katie Reedy, who joined FISD in 2007, will serve as principal at Spears Elementary in the 2023-24 school year. She currently serves as assistant principal at Scott Elementary School.

In addition to filling Ogle Elementary School principal and Spears Elementary School principal openings, the board also approved recommended personnel for several positions at campuses across the district, including:
  • Assistant principal
  • Counselor
  • Diagnostician
  • Librarian
  • Nurse
  • Speech language pathologist
  • Teacher
Those contracts will also take effect in the 2023-24 school year, Korinna Kirchhoff, FISD assistant director of communications, said.

The principal positions for Ogle Elementary and Spears Elementary were posted on FISD’s job listings in December, according to its website. The position is responsible for providing instructional leadership, developing a supportive and inclusive culture, motivating others and more, according to the job posting.

The action comes as schools across Texas are dealing with a statewide teacher shortage. According to an August survey from the Texas State Teachers Association, 70% of teachers considered quitting their jobs after the 2021-22 school year. The Texas Education Agency announced the formation of the Teacher Vacancy Task Force in March 2022 in order to address the shortage. The task force released its final report in February after a series of meetings held in 2022.
