The Owl Bar boasts the largest liquor and spirit selection in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, business co-owner Alex Nguyen said.

The Owl Bar goes beyond booze and offers a food menu, which features what Lisa Nguyen, Alex’s wife and business co-owner, describes as elevated bar fare.

The Nguyens, who are Frisco residents, opened The Owl Bar in 2022 in Frisco.

Behind the bar—which is studded with 36,000 pennies—and nestled between 1,300 bottles of spirits, are a few of the televisions that encircle the dining area.

On the menu

While naming their 14 pizza options, the Nguyens chose to stay on-theme. The Owl Pacino, featuring fig jam, prosciutto, goat cheese, arugula and balsamic drizzle is a top seller. Other customer favorites include The Hoot, which is a margarita style pizza; Dr. Whooo with alfredo sauce, fresh spinach, chicken, mozzarella, parmesan and a pesto sauce drizzle; and Owlexander The Great, which is topped with Canadian bacon, sausage, pepperoni, bacon, black olives, mushrooms, red onions, red sauce and mozzarella.

Other popular non-pizza food items are the wedge salad, caprese salad, wings and pretzels.

Alex Nguyen said he named some of their signature drinks after his wife and daughters. The London—an espresso martini—bears his youngest daughter’s name and is one of the top sellers.

What else?

The Owl Bar offers karaoke every Friday and Saturday night. Recently, dueling piano entertainment was well-received and a plan is in place to make it a monthly event. Sporting events are shown on multiple televisions.

Alex explained that the business name was chosen based on lore pertaining to Al Capone during prohibition. As the story goes, an extraordinary owl perched over a speakeasy in Chicago and provided a warning when police were heading that way.

“Some say the owl saved Capone from a dozen raids. Others say it was just a myth to scare off nosy feds,” Alex Nguyen said. “But we believe here at The Owl Bar.”
