Snowbird Cocktail Lounge & Kitchen owner David Nguyen said the Frisco area has a need for a place like Snowbird, a new elevated cocktail lounge concept. The restaurant had its grand opening at 6765 Winning Drive, Ste. 800., Frisco, on Oct. 21.

Snowbird Cocktail Lounge & Kitchen was created from a partnership between bar and hospitality experts Nguyen and Sobe Ahmed. The restaurant, managed by General Manager Alon Weltman, aims to be a “chic and elevated upscale lounge,” according to a news release. It specializes in cocktails and small bites in a music-filled lounge.

“With all the development, everything that’s going on here in Frisco now, it’s ... a market that ... we felt like there was a need for a little bit more upscale, nice place,” Nguyen said.

At Snowbird’s 35-foot-long bar, mixologists create a variety of classic cocktails and Snowbird original cocktails, Weltman said. The drink menu includes signature cocktails starting at $18 and a variety of wine options starting at $12 per glass. The restaurant also offers bottle service.

The 18 drinks offered on the menu were developed with help from Steve “Scuba” Underhill of the Tipsy Alchemist in Dallas. The restaurant uses a scientific approach to incorporate natural ingredients and housemade syrups with no preservatives, Weltman said.

“We’re using science to both balance that cocktail perfectly and provide a great show when it comes to the table,” Weltman said.

The 4,100-square-foot space in The Star District includes dining and lounge seating as well as a second level with additional seating. The entrance and restaurant are separated by a black curtain that is pulled back to reveal the space as patrons enter. The experience was curated to offer a relaxed but elevated atmosphere that can serve as an escape for guests, Weltman said.

“A snowbird is someone who moves somewhere to escape ... frozen tundra. What we’re providing over here is an escape from reality,” Weltman said.

The dining menu includes a variety of lounge bites, such as wagyu empanadas for $12, kimchi calamari for $22 and black garlic hummus for $15. The restaurant also offers entrees, such as seared scallops for $30 and 40-day aged wagyu tomahawk steaks at market price, as well as salads and a variety of desserts. Chef Walter Bandt, a Dallas native, leads the kitchen and uses his experience from traveling the world to incorporate flavors from Latin America, Europe and Asia, according to a news release.

The restaurant managers plan to participate in future events within The Star District as well as host its own cocktail classes and other events, according to Weltman.
