Plans for the first brewery in Frisco can officially proceed.

Frisco City Council on March 1 approved zoning changes for the Ritchey Gin project, which will host Frisco Brewing Company. The upcoming 12,000-square-foot brewery at 6601 Frisco Square Blvd. will open alongside a restaurant, bakery, butcher shop and large patio space.

A parking garage with over 200 parking spaces and a three-story office building are also planned on the site, according to Development Services Director John Lettelleir and city documents.

Lettelleir said some property owners around the site for Frisco Brewing Company expressed concerns over brewery waste. However, he added that the city confirmed with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality that no adverse effects are expected.

“This is no different than living next door to a barbecue,” Lettelleir said. “There's no health impact to that.”

Parking was also a concern expressed by some property owners, according to Lettelleir. But he said that plans submitted to the city included more parking than required, and that future on-street parking on Elm Street should further accommodate visitors.

Mayor Jeff Cheney thanked Donny Churchman, president and owner of Nack Development, for his continued investment into the city and for existing projects in Frisco, such as The Patios At The Rail, The Tower At The Rail and Nack Theater.

“We've talked about The Rail District for over a decade as far as how do we help it ... How does it get started?” Cheney said. “We needed that person to come in willing to invest, and Donny and Nack have been that person.”

Construction is set to begin this year, and the brewery is expected to open in 2023.
