The Frisco Fire Department is getting a drone.

Frisco City Council approved a $76,474 purchase agreement with Flymotion during its April 4 meeting. Funding for the drone will come from the fire department’s 2023 budget.

The drone in question is an approximately $13,000 DJI Matrice 300 RTK Unmanned Aircraft System, according to meeting documents, a model specially designed for commercial and public safety operations requiring extended flight times over increased ranges.

Accessories, including a camera lens with night vision and thermal imaging capabilities, a remote controller, landing pad, and more, were all purchased alongside the drone, according to an itemized receipt included in the meeting documents.

“This equipment will give the Fire Department advanced capabilities needed for incidents such as hazardous materials responses, rescues, large-scale searches and other instances in which this equipment may be useful,” according to a statement included in the meeting documents.
