Frisco City Council passed a resolution Tuesday opposing a proposed rate increase from Oncor Electric Delivery Company.
The proposed rate increase, if approved, would cost a residential customer using 1000 kWh per month more than $6 per month, according to the city.
In March, Oncor filed an application with the Public Utility Commission of Texas to increase the rates in cities retaining original jurisdiction, such as Frisco. The company is asking the city to approve an 11.8 percent increase in residential rates and a 0.5 percent increase in street lighting rates.
A steering committee for Oncor's member cities is asking all the cities affected by the rate change to pass the resolution. Member cities have until Aug. 19 to pass the resolution. If the resolution is passed by all the cities, Oncor will have 30 days to appeal the decision with the PUCT.
