Wing, a subsidiary of Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has partnered with Walmart to expand on-demand drone delivery services in Frisco.
According to a news release, the Walmart Supercenter located at 8555 Preston Road in Frisco will be the first market to utilize the drone network. In a blog post, Wing Chief Financial Officer Shannon Nash said residents within approximately 6 miles of the store will be eligible to purchase a range of products, such as groceries, household essentials and over-the-counter medicines. A date for the launch was not announced, but Nash said it would be available “in the coming weeks.”
“This is a major milestone for Wing, as we continue down our path toward building capabilities to support some of the significant delivery operations in the world,” Nash said in a blog post. “Our technology is designed to complement existing delivery offerings, making overall systems more efficient and able to meet real customer needs.”
Residents can check whether they are eligible for delivery at www.wing.com/dfw. The Wing app is publicly available for both iOS and Android devices.
