Drivers should expect various closures Aug. 22-24 to allow for the demolition of the old bridge over I-35E at Main Street in Lewisville.

Two nights of closures are currently planned, according to a Facebook post from Denton County.

The details

The first closure is planned to start at 8 p.m. Aug. 22 and last until 10 a.m. Aug. 23, per the information. During the closure, all northbound lanes and one southbound lane on I-35E between the Fox Avenue and Valley Ridge Boulevard exits. Southbound traffic will be forced to exit at Valley Ridge, and northbound traffic at Fox Avenue.

A second closure will start at 8 p.m. Aug. 23 and end at 10 a.m. Aug. 24 involving all southbound lanes in the area. All managed lanes along I-35E will be closed from 8 p.m. Aug. 22 until 10 a.m. Aug. 24.

While demolition work is underway for the old Main Street Bridge, eastbound and westbound traffic along Main Street will be closed off. Because of the closures and delays, drivers are encouraged to seek a different route or plan for delays.

Some context

The demolition work follows up on previous construction that was completed in June, which involved setting steel girders for the new bridge.

The Main Street overpass is part of a $105 million Texas Department of Transportation project that includes construction of new main travel lanes and frontage roads along I-35E, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

What’s next?

Construction on the second phase of improvements along I-35E, which includes the new bridge, is expected to wrap up in late 2026.
