Utilities are currently being relocated to make way for the reconstruction of FM 407 from Cleveland Gibbs Road to Gateway Drive in Argyle.

The utility relocations will not impact traffic, said Tila Grant, Texas Department of Transportation Public Information Officer.

The details

The construction will widen the road from a two-lane rural road to a six-lane urban road with three eastbound lanes and three westbound lanes, Grant said.

The lanes will be 12-feet wide with 18-foot-wide medians, 12-foot-wide left-turn lanes, and curb and gutter drainage, according to a presentation from TxDOT. A shared-use path and sidewalk will also be included to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.

Design plans are complete and a right of way has been acquired for the project, Grant said.

No lane or road closures have been finalized for the project, but TxDOT will communicate any traffic impacts to the public, Grant said.

“TxDOT strives to maintain traffic lanes as much as possible during construction and only have closures when necessary,” Grant said

Zooming out

This construction is part of a bigger project along FM 407 spanning 11.5 miles from Bill Cook Road to FM 1830. The project is to address population, economic growth, regional transportation demand and system linkages in the project area, according to the presentation from TxDOT. Part of the project involves realigning the road starting in Northlake and going through Justin, according to the TxDOT presentation.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be $235 million.

A public meeting about the project was held by TxDOT on March 27, 2023 and citizens had the opportunity to comment about the project through April 11, 2023. No other public meetings are scheduled for this project at this time, Grant said.

Looking ahead

Additional utility relocations will occur along FM 407 but there is no timeline for when those will take place, Grant said.

The reconstruction from Cleveland Gibbs Road to Gateway Drive is scheduled to start the bidding process late 2027, Grant said. The construction will likely last two to three years, but no timeline has been finalized.
