Medical City Lewisville

Medical City Lewisville has earned a Level III maternal care designation, an increase from its previous status.

The designation, which is the second-highest awarded to hospitals, was made in January. Deborah Cates, director of women’s and children’s services at Medical City Lewisville, said Medical City Lewisville is the only hospital in Denton County with a Level III designation for its maternal care and neonatal intensive care units.

“For Denton County [it’s] nice that they have three good, strong OB programs, but within those they do have a level three, so people don't have to transfer out of our county for care,” Cates said.

With the Level III designation, Cates added that the hospital is able to take care of any baby of any gestational age and that the only cases where a transfer might be necessary are for a surgical consultation or cardiac anomaly.

Medical City Lewisville had 3,300 neonatal intensive care admissions in 2024 and delivered more than 2,000 babies last year. Cates said the hospital has:
  • an 18-bed labor and delivery unit.
  • a 28-bed mom and baby unit.
  • a 21-bed neonatal intensive care unit.
To maintain the Level III designation, the hospital will need to pass a check-in at 18 months and continue providing OB hospitalists and anesthesia on a 24/7 basis, Cates said.

For the fifth straight year, Medical City Lewisville was named as the best hospital to have a baby, Cates said.

The hospital’s perinatal unit was also named the top within the 186-hospital network within HCA Healthcare, Cates added.Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Flower Mound
