A free Health and Wellness Fair scheduled for June 24 in Flower Mound has been postponed, according to a spokeswoman from AAA Texas, which is the event sponsor.

The background

The event was scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. at Flower Mound Senior Center, 2701 W. Windsor Drive, and was to feature state Sen. Tan Parker of Flower Mound. The event was to feature resources aimed at helping to keep seniors safe, healthy and independent as they age, a June 14 release stated.

What happened

Kara Thorp, AAA Texas and New Mexico public affairs specialist, said in a June 20 email the event had to be rescheduled because of “unforeseen circumstances.” A new date for the event has not been established.

A closer look

The event will feature vendors who will share free resources on driving safety, physical wellness, nutrition, home care and elder law. Attendees will also hear from local experts on maintaining independence, driver education and “scam prevention,” the June 14 release stated.

What they’re saying

“I am glad to join AAA Texas for this free, local resource fair specifically created to assist Texas seniors and their families,” said Parker, who represents District 12, in the release. “Working with seniors across Texas, I have listened and learned from their valuable perspectives on resources that are most helpful. This event was created with many of these needs in mind, helping to keep senior Texans safe and healthy for years to come.”

“AAA Texas’ goal is to help senior drivers continue to drive safely and comfortably for as long as possible,” Thorp said in the release. “When seniors are unable to drive, they lose important social connections with friends and family, as well as access to health care. Studies show this can result in an increase in depression among older individuals.”
