Argyle Town Council approved a $282,832 contract with HD Cook's Rock Solid Inc. for drainage work to occur on Ben Boyd Road, Hickory Ridge Circle and East Harpole Road at the Nov. 17 meeting.

The details

The drainage projects were recommended by Freese and Nichols Inc., a planning and consulting firm that serves as Argyle's town engineer, Town Manager Mike Sims said.

The $282,832 comes from the town’s capital improvement fund, according to town documents

The largest project will be on East Harpole Road and include repairing a couple of spots east of Gibbons Road at a cost of $119,317, Public Works Director Bobby Johnston said. Work includes replacing piping, paving restoration for new asphalt and concrete driveways, and erosion protection features, per town documents. This will improve roadside drainage capacity, enhance roadway safety and reduce future drainage maintenance needs along the high-traffic corridor, according to town documents.

The work done on Hickory Ridge Circle will cost $42,267 and include drainage improvements, reshaping 170 feet of ditch and reinstalling large stones for erosion control. That work will be done near the intersection of Hickory Ridge Court and Hickory Ridge Circle, Johnston said. This section focuses on long-term maintenance of the existing residential drainage channel, improving both capacity and appearance, per town documents

Ben Boyd Road work will cost approximately $91,105 and include drainage improvements and minor pavement restoration at driveway crossings for the whole west side of Ben Boyd Road, Johnston said. These improvements will restore proper drainage flow, reduce standing water and protect the adjacent pavement and driveway edges, per town documents.

Preparing the sites for all three projects will cost $36,000, per town documents.

The approved contract also includes a $25,000 contingency fee, according to town documents.

Looking ahead

Johnston plans to meet with the contractor later this week to determine the time frame for the projects, he said. The projects are not expected to affect traffic flow, he added.
