The city’s proposed general fund budget for fiscal year 2025-26 includes $69,418 for equipment and technology for the Highland Village Police Department.

If approved, these funds will go toward Flock cameras, ballistic shields, an AI program and a drone.

A closer look

Of the total $69,418 proposed:
  • $15,000 would be for five additional Flock cameras, which are automatic license plate readers that help officers quickly locate vehicles and monitor park entrances/exits.
  • $18,418 would be for two rifle-rated ballistic shields to protect officers against high-caliber weapons
  • $6,000 would fund the Blue Voice AI program, which allows staff to quickly access department policies, city ordinances and more
  • $30,000 would go toward a police drone to support situational awareness, search and rescue, crowd monitoring, evidence collection, and enhancing safety.
Also of note

The police department requested a total of $88,149 for FY 2025-26. They requested an additional $4,231 for an additional 40-millimeter launcher—a less lethal alternative than a taser—and $14,500 for a new pickup truck. Neither request is included in the proposed general fund budget.
