Council approved a $1.92 million contract with Dickerson Construction Company at the May 13 meeting. Funding for the project is allocated from the city’s utility fund, Director of Public Works Scott Kriston said.
The details
The city has been working on replacing existing asbestos concrete water pipes with new ones made of polyvinyl chloride, Kriston said. The new water lines will be 8 inches in diameter, per city documents.
According to city documents, the project includes water line replacements on the following streets:
- Cedar Drive
- Edgewood Drive
- Gayle Lane
- Lakeland Drive
- Merriman Drive
- Oak Street
Looking ahead
The water line replacement projects and the new storm drain will take place ahead of the third phase of asphalt overlays outlined in the 2022 bond program, Kriston said.
“We’re going to dig them up before we dig up the street,” he said. “Then, we’ll go in and do the streets, which is already an approved project.”
Work replacing the water lines is expected to start this summer, officials said. Dickerson Construction Company will have six months to finish the replacements, Kriston added.
