The town of Flower Mound will hold a bond election May 3 to decide on a $112 million spending package that could include work on parks, trails and roads. Officials voted unanimously to call the bond election at a Feb. 3 meeting.

The details

The bond package, if approved by voters, would include $82 million for parks, trails and recreation projects, such as the expansion of the town’s Community Activity Center. Another $30 million would go toward fixing and maintaining local roads. A majority of the town’s road network is in good condition, but those constructed in the '80s make up a bulk of the town’s needed road work.

“We have an aging infrastructure so we need to find a way to fund some amenities that we want to do and some repairs we want to do in an aging community,” Flower Mound Mayor Cheryl Moore said.

More details

On top of improvements to the Community Activity Center, which were proposed in the town’s 2017 parks, recreation and open space master plan, the package could also include spending on Leonard & Helen Johns Community Park, Prairie Trail Park, Twin Coves Park and others. Some $14.5 million is earmarked for trail projects, such as improvements to trails along Flower Mound Road.

The bond committee recommended $1 million for projects on the west side of town, such as a 24-hour library kiosk, an outdoor reading oasis and connectors to the Canyon Falls trail head.
