Northlake is now a little bigger after Town Council approved the annexation of two plots of land, adding some 102 acres in a near-unanimous vote during its meeting Sept. 12.

In a nutshell

Per pre-stipulated development agreements, Northlake added more than 100 acres to move two projects forward, one in the Hawthorne Estates property and the other for the Northlake Business Park.

Zooming out

During the meeting, the Town Council first considered the adoption of an ordinance that would see Northlake add about 34 acres of land situated east of Faught Road about 1,500 feet north of Carpenter Road. The extra land is for a development agreement approved for the Hawthorne Estates property.

The second annexation ordinance added another nearly 68 acres to the town in the 1600 and 1700 blocks of FM 407. The development agreement for the plan was approved June 2023 for the Northlake Business Park.

What they’re saying

Michael Carter, co-owner of TX Business Parks, which is developing Northlake Business Park, told the council that he was upset with how long the project was taking to get through town staff.

“We have been struggling with trying to get through the development portion where we can do what we do,” Carter told the council. “It seems to be neverending.”

However, Town Manager Drew Corn said during the Sept. 12 meeting that the delays had to do with getting the drainage right for the project.

“This is about drainage and council has impressed upon staff of how important drainage is,” Corn said. “This is an iterative review process."
