The town of Argyle has opened up applications for its tree rebate program.

The program, which began accepting applications on Oct. 1, is aimed at increasing canopy coverage across the town by offering planting incentives to individual residents, businesses and homeowners associations.

The gist

According to a town news release, applicants can purchase trees and receive a rebate on the cost of the tree, in addition to the costs of taxes and delivery.

Through the program, individual residents and homeowners associations can purchase qualifying trees ranging in size from five gallons to 45 gallons and receive a rebate between $50-400 per tree, depending on the size.

The town has set aside $10,000 annually for residents and an additional $10,000 for HOAs.

Qualifying trees include a number of native species, such as various oaks, Mexican plums and Texas walnuts.
