At a July 15 meeting, Flower Mound Town Council approved a conceptual master plan for the new Trotter Park.

As part of the plan, council asked for an increase in the number of planned pickleball courts from eight to 12. Also, council requested a looped, half-mile trail be made with a combination concrete and crushed granite or similar product, said Chuck Jennings, town parks and recreation director. This conceptual plan assists with the design/construction documents.

The details

Besides pickleball courts and a trail, the 13-acre park will have a playground, basketball courts, a plaza gathering area and two tennis courts, among other amenities. The park will be located in the 4500 block of Cross Timbers Road on the west side of Flower Mound. Public input was sought on the project in its development stage.

With the passage of the plan, town staff and representatives from MHS Planning and Design will make modifications to the initial plan to add in four additional pickleball courts and adjust parking as needed, Jennings said. Town staff plan to move forward with the design of the park next fiscal year.

The background

The public got a glimpse at two different sketches of the park in the spring. MHS Planning and Design representatives used the feedback provided by the parks board and public during its April work session item to create a conceptual design that the parks board unanimously recommended for council consideration at its June meeting, a council agenda memo states.

Zooming in

The park will be funded through a number of sources, including a matching $750,000 Texas Parks & Wildlife grant, and funds from the fiscal year 2024-25 budget. Design for the project will take approximately 10 months, starting in October, Jennings previously told Community Impact. Park construction funding will start in FY 2025-26 with an expected opening date in early 2027, Jennings said.
