Areas to be renovated are the public restroom, staff restroom, break room, plumbing fixtures and roof.

Council approved funds up to $200,000 for the upgrades, some of which will be performed on employee and public restrooms. Town Administrator Erika McComis said repairs will be conducted at different times for the restrooms in order to leave at least one restroom open. The renovations are ongoing and should be finished in September, McComis said later in an email.

The background

During the fiscal year 2023-24 budget discussions last summer, town staff and council examined the need for repairs and renovations to the town hall and potentially for the accessory structure. Over the past few months, a council agenda memo stated, staff has collaborated with Holtman Construction Services to review the inspection reports on both buildings and identify necessary repairs. Additionally, the memo stated, staff requested cost estimates for updates to the aging restroom and kitchen facilities within the town hall.

Quote of Note

Council Member Cynthia Hermann said she understood the need for the renovations.

“We are going to be in this building for a while, no matter what decisions are regarding anything else," Council Member Cynthia Hermann said. "We are going to be here for several, several years before we’re at a point where we’re ready to move in somewhere else. So we need to make a place that is accessible and appropriate for the staff that works here and for the community that comes to events here.”
