Officials from the town of Flower Mound and Lewisville ISD have partnered on a summer pilot program allowing the public access to four tennis courts at Flower Mound High School.

The details

In a partnership that began July 8, Flower Mound residents may use the town’s reservation system to reserve court time through Aug. 6 at the school, 3411 Peters Colony Road, according to a news release from the town of Flower Mound.

Zooming in

Town officials provided these tips for residents interested in reserving court time at Flower Mound High School, from the release:

  • Courts 1-4 at the northern end of the complex will be available for reservations Mondays through Wednesdays from 4-10 p.m. as well as Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Reservations are required, and residents can reserve a court in 90-minute time slots a maximum of twice per week.
  • Players should respect LISD’s amenities and follow all posted rules.
  • Courts can be accessed from Old Settlers Road.
  • There will be a portable toilet on-site, but there will not be access to a water fountain, so players should come prepared for the summer heat and bring their own water.
  • The LISD courts have lights. Players can push the designated button on the north side of the gate to light the courts until 10 p.m.
  • Town staff will unlock and lock the tennis court gates for use. Players will need to leave promptly at the closing time so the gates can be secured.
  • LISD courts are not marked for pickleball.

A closer look

The release stated this pilot program provides another amenity for residents while giving the town the opportunity to gauge interest in the use of the tennis courts. Town officials and the school district were able to reach an agreement for the town to provide resources related to additional wear and tear on the courts, creating a secure entrance to the courts available for use, and for any damage that may occur during the pilot period. The district must also consider consistency regarding facility use among the 12 other municipalities it serves, the release states.

At the conclusion of the pilot, the town and the district will evaluate the success of the pilot program and discuss next steps. Moving forward, town officials will explore additional ways to provide both tennis and pickleball amenities to residents, including potentially adding courts to existing parks and/or adding courts into the design of future parks. A proposed $15 million bond issue to build a tennis center failed in May.
