The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested the fire chief of Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1 on Nov. 17.

Mac Hohenberger was arrested on charges that are currently unknown as the investigation remains ongoing, according to an emergency services news release. The Denton County Emergency Services District No 1. services Argyle, Bartonville, Copper Canyon, Corral City, Lantana and Northlake.

Attempts to reach members of the FBI were unsuccessful at this time.

Hohenberger started his career at Argyle Fire District in 1991. In 2000, he was promoted to fire chief by the Argyle Fire District Board of Directors.

The Denton County emergency services will be supplying additional information when it is available on its website, www.DentonCountyESD1.gov. Officials at District No. 1 will remain dedicated to ensuring transparency to personnel and the community during this process and will continue to work cooperatively with the FBI while all inquiries are addressed, according to the release.




The Argyle Professional Fire Fighters Association addressed the arrest in a Nov. 17 news release.

“For more than a year, we have strongly supported an independent investigation of allegations that Argyle firefighter retirement contributions were mismanaged or are missing due to misconduct by members of the fire department administration,” the release stated.

The arrest of Hohenberger represents the serious charges and a public crisis at Argyle Fire District, Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1 and Denton County, according to the statement.
