The unofficial results show that Ronald Schmidt will be the new Argyle mayor with 837, or 76.93% of voters voting for him and 251, or 23.07% of voters supporting Chad Sheddy.
"I'm humbled that so many voters came out to support me and thankful for all the volunteers who helped me through this journey," Ronald Schmidt said. "I've worked very hard for the last eight years for the Argyle citizens and our wonderful town. My commitment is for the residents of this town always. I've never forgotten who elected me and who I serve. Ultimately there are a lot of good things ahead for Argyle."
Additionally, the unofficial results show that the increased sales tax has failed with 552, or 50.27% of voters against the proposition and 552, or 50.27% of voters in support of the sales tax.
"Unfortunately the wording we had to choose from a legal perspective didn't demonstrate ultimately what we were doing," Schmidt said. "It was simply a restructure of the sales tax... which ultimately would have allowed us to collect more taxes in the Belmont District. Having said that, we will probably put it on the ballot again a year from now with a little bit more support and explanation."

Currently, Argyle levies 2% of sales tax within the town limits and 1.25% within the Belmont Fresh Water Supply District No. 2, which is where the Harvest commercial area is located. The agreement with the Belmont Fresh Water Supply District No. 2 splits the sales tax between Argyle, the district and the Argyle Municipal Development District. The Municipal Development District collects 0.25% and the Belmont District collects 0.50%, leaving 0.50% for the town.
With the increase, Argyle will collect a total of 0.875% in sales tax income from the Harvest commercial area, the Argyle Municipal Development District will collect 0.25% and the Belmont District will receive 0.875% out of the 2% allowed for local sales tax collections.
If the tax increase is approved, the town estimates the new sales tax will bring in over $100,000 in revenue for the town, according to town documents.
