The Argyle ISD board of trustees approved an additional $450,000 to be added to the contingency fund for the district’s new stadium and indoor activity center at a June 16 meeting.
The motion was approved in a 6-1 vote, with trustee Josh Westrom opposing.
The background
The project was included in the 2022 bond package as part of the district’s 10-year strategic growth plan.
The stadium will be located behind the Argyle High School fieldhouse, and the existing artificial turf field and track will be used for the new stadium, according to the district’s website. The indoor activity center, also being built on the campus, will be utilized by multiple teams and student groups that will no longer have to travel to the indoor facility at the US 377 campus.
A closer look
According to the agenda item, the district encountered additional unanticipated costs during the construction process.
The funding will be used to resolve issues with existing track and field event infrastructure, meet irrigation system requirements and fund necessary electrical relocations across the site.
The $450,000 will be only spent if necessary, and all savings will be returned to the district when the project is completed, per district documents.
Looking ahead
Construction Manager Jeff Koehn said the replenished contingency funds will allow the flexibility for the project to keep moving forward if more unexpected costs are discovered.
The stadium is scheduled to open this November, per a Pogue Construction presentation.
