The board of trustees unanimously approved additional staff at the June 16 meeting. In addition, the district will hire another diagnostician and full-time police officer with a K-9 unit.
The context
The student population in Argyle ISD is quickly growing, and the board of trustees is continuing to make small class sizes a priority, according to a presentation from district staff.
“We are bringing this to you not as information, but as action because there’s an urgency to it,” Deputy Superintendent Chris Daniel said in his presentation.
The district anticipates to serve over 11,000 students by 2033-24, nearly double its current student population, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
The cost
AISD will spend $546,775 on additional staff for the 2025-26 school year, including:
- The five teaching positions will cost $340,000 annually and will come from the district’s maintenance and operations budget.
- The full-time police officer will cost $86,775 annually, and an additional $120,000 in startup costs. Both amounts will come from the maintenance and operations budget.
What’s next
Jane Ruestmann Elementary and Hilltop Elementary will both receive one additional teacher.
The other three teaching positions will be reserved to address potential enrollment increases at other campuses, per the agenda item.
