Argyle ISD officials expect to open the new high school stadium and indoor activity center this November as crews continue construction.

Construction Manager Jeff Koehn provided updates on the project to the board at the April 22 meeting. Koehn also provided updates on the district's new middle school construction, which is slated to complete in 2026. Both projects are part of the 2022 bond package.

What to know

The home side press box steel frame has been erected and crews have begun masonry work around it, Koehn said. The concrete columns for the home side stands are almost complete and the stadium’s 120-foot light poles have been installed.

The grade beams, which provide structural support and stability, have been poured for the indoor activity center. Additionally, crews have started masonry work on the south end home side concession stand and are set to pour the remaining portion of the visitor side parking lot, Koehn said.

When complete, the stadium will seat 7,500 and will be located behind the AHS field house. The existing artificial turf field and track will be used for the new stadium.

The indoor activity center on campus will be utilized by multiple teams and student groups, according to district documents. The center will contain a small dressing area with showers, storage and restrooms, and will also double as the visitor locker room.

More details

Masonry work has begun on the two gymnasiums of the new middle school on FM 407, one of which will double as a storm shelter, Koehn said. Grade beams are being poured in the classroom wing and the concrete slab has been poured for the fine arts and band area.

Construction crews are laying the turf for the field and are forming and grading the earthwork foundation for the campus’s tennis courts.

Some context

Athletes at Argyle High School off Canyon Falls Drive currently use the stadium and activity center at Argyle Middle School on US 377, prompting the district to build a new $45 million stadium and indoor activity center for high school students, according to district documents.

With the completion of this project, AISD's split into two high schools and middle schools and the middle school on US 377 repurposed as a high school, both campuses will have their own stadium and activity centers.

The addition of the new middle school will help facilitate the district’s 10-year strategic plan, which includes splitting into two middle schools and two high schools.

The district plans to open the second middle school on FM 407 in 2026 and turn the US 377 campus back into a high school in 2027 to provide enrollment relief. Starting in 2027, the US 377 campus will begin to serve high school students alongside its middle school student enrollment, with more high school grades to be added each year until it can serve as a dedicated high school in 2029.

The new middle school off FM 407, which is expected to cost around $89 million, is scheduled to open in August 2026 and will serve grades 7-8 with a capacity of 1,200 students, according to district documents.

Looking ahead

The visitor stands should arrive the first week of May and the home side should arrive in early summer, Koehn said. Steel erection on the middle school site should begin within the next week to be followed by the installing of the roofs on the two gyms.

The stadium and indoor activity center should be completed this November and the middle school by July 2026, he said.
