What to know
The three-year contract began in March and will expire in 2028, officials said. Trustees approved the agreement at a March board meeting.
Nursing students will assist with nursing and other ancillary health care services at AISD campuses and facilities, but the district will have the ability to restrict any activities including patient care, according to agreement documents. Students will only perform duties that they have been academically trained for.
The clinical rotations will last for eight weeks at a time and the students will be at AISD facilities two days per week, officials said. The designated campuses where students will conduct rotations has yet to be determined, but officials said there will be no more than one student per campus. The district expects to receive its first batch of students this fall.
Also of note
Prospective candidates will go through an interview process and will be supervised by an instructor from The University of Tulsa or faculty member who is a licensed nurse in Oklahoma, according to agreement documents. Each student will undergo immunizations, background checks and drug screenings conducted by the university. They will also be required to have a current CPR certification.
After the contract expires, the agreement will continue for one additional year unless the district notifies The University of Tulsa to terminate the agreement 90 days prior to the end of the initial term, according to documents.
