A new early education child care center is moving forward with plans to open in Flower Mound after plans for the location received clearance from council for a deviation for its roof requirements.

On July 1, Flower Mound Town Council approved request to grant a specific use permit for Lightbridge Academy's new location that included a waiver to town code requirements related to roof pitch.

The details

The planned 14,300-square-foot academy is located south of Sagebrush Drive and west of Long Prairie Road.

Lexin Murphy, director of development services for the town, said in a presentation to council that the applicant requested a smaller slope angle than the city requires for non-residential building of less than 15,000 square feet in order to fit the company’s branding.

Patricia Fant, land planner for design firm McAdams, said Lightbrige offers nurturing care for children along with a “unique early childhood education curriculum.”

She added that the project will go through the site plan evaluation, and could open in the next year or two.
