Lori Walker, president of the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce, told Town Council on Oct. 21 that she and others were gearing up for the shop local program which will take place during the first week of November. The program is meant to incentivize residents to shop and keep their dollars in town.

“As we’re about to enter the season of shopping for Christmas, this is a great thing,” Walker said.

The details

Walker said businesses in town are free to participate and can get signed up for the program at shoplocalfm.com. The program is a collaborative effort between the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce and the town’s economic development team. This is the fourth shop local week the town has hosted.

Each day of the first week of November has a theme as part of the shop local program. Residents can participate in the different themes on social media for a chance to win $100 cash. To participate, residents must follow the themes of each day, check into different locations, take a picture and post it on social media with the hashtag #shoplocalfm.

What’s next?

At the end of the week, all resident posts that used the #shoplocalfm hashtag will be entered to win cash prizes. Walker said shop local is a good program that generally drives up membership for the local chamber of commerce.

“One of the great things about this is the businesses get into it too,” Walker said.
