The North Texas Municipal Water District, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Lavon Lake Watershed Partnership have opened a public comment period for the draft Lavon Lake Watershed Protection Plan. The draft plan can be viewed on the NTMWD's website.

The plan will address increasing bacteria levels in the East Fork of the Trinity River and Wilson Creek tributaries, which flow into Lavon Lake, according to a news release from the NTMWD.

Comments for the plan will be accepted from July 6-Aug. 4 and may be submitted online at the NTMWD's website, emailed or mailed to Galen Roberts, watershed manager, at [email protected] or NTMWD, P.O. Box 2408, Wylie, Texas, 75098.

The public can also view a hard copy of the draft plan, ask questions or provide comments at the NTMWD Environmental Services Building, 201 E. Brown St., Wylie, during normal business hours from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Roberts said in a news release from the water district.

Roberts will also be available to answer questions July 18 at the Environmental Services Building from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

The NTMWD formed a steering committee for the Lavon Lake Watershed Protection Plan last year and the plan was expected to take one to three years to create.

Lavon Lake supplies drinking water to over 1.6 million residents and is a primary water source for the NTMWD.
