Plano ISD receives 'A' as Texas releases school district accountability ratings

Plano ISD received an "A" for its overall accountability rating for the 2018-19 school year. This rating was given by the Texas Education Agency, which released ratings for school districts state-wide on Aug. 15.

Here is how Plano ISD ranked under each domain:

Student Achievement: B
This rating is based on how much students know and are able to do at the end of the school year. PISD earned 89 of 100 possible points.

School Progress: A
This rating is based on how students perform over time, comparing their progress to similar schools. PISD earned 91 of 100 possible points.

Closing the Gaps: A
This rating is based on the performance of different populations of students. PISD earned 90 of 100 possible points.

Individual schools are rated using the A-F system. This system is being implemented for the first time this year. The scale for grades is as follows:

Grade A: 90-100
Grade B: 80-89
Grade C: 70-79
Grade D: 60-69
Grade F: 0-59

Overall grades for campuses are calculated based on the school’s performance in three domains, according to TEA: Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps. Student Achievement includes STAAR performance, graduation rates and college, career and military readiness. School Progress includes academic growth and relative performance.

The school’s scores for Student Achievement and School Progress are compared, and the higher score is given more weight.

The agency then factors in possible performance gaps that may exist between different groups in the Closing the Gaps domain. This score considers the ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds of students as well as economically disadvantaged numbers and other factors, according to TEA.

Schools are also highlighted for areas where the school performed exceptionally well.
