The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD board of trustees allocated $100,000 July 22 to repair gymnasium No. 1 at Cross Timbers Middle School, as well as the adjacent locker rooms and hallways. A storm June 16 had caused a flood in this area of the school. "Water got into the gymnasium and covered the floor in about 2 inches of water," Superintendent Robin Ryan said. "It was a really devastating situation." There was an immediate response to the flooding, with facility staff washing and disinfecting the flooded area while the district worked with insurance to take stock of damages, Chief Operations Officer Paula Barbaroux said. Insurance adjusters declared the wooden gymnasium floor a total loss, district documents said. It was recommended the district replace the floor. Two areas of fencing are also in need of repairs, according to meeting documents. District officials have arranged for flooring vendors to provide proposals to replace the floor. The insurance adjuster will have to review the scope of the work and the costs. The district has a $100,000 deductible for this claim, which it will appropriate from undesignated 2005 interest earnings on bond funds, according to meeting documents. The new floor should be installed before the end of the next semester, Barbaroux said. In the meantime, she has assisted with rescheduling and relocating the volleyball games that would have been held at Cross Timbers. Board member Jesse Rodriguez asked about what needs to be done to prevent future flooding from happening. Barbaroux said that was something the district would have to explore, as there is not anything outlined in the current bond program to assist with the flooding from the creek. Flooding from the creek has historically been rare, board President Lisa Pardo said, noting it was about 10 years ago the creek had flooded district property.
