Collin College will offer construction management coursework beginning this fall that will build toward an associate degree and two certificate programs.

According to a Collin College new release, the college recently received approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to offer an Associate of Applied Science and Level 1 and Level 2 certificates in construction management.

“The skills that students will learn in this program are in high demand as our region continues to grow,” Frisco Campus Associate Dean Mike Coffman said in the release. “As we developed this program, we consulted with a diverse advisory committee of local construction businesses. The committee’s members consistently indicated the need for this program and the job candidates it will create.”

The coursework will include an introduction to the construction industry; construction methods and materials; cost estimation; blueprint reading; mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems; project scheduling; safety; and other skills in the construction industry.

The program will initially be offered at the Preston Ridge campus in Frisco, and it will then move to the Collin College Technical Campus in Allen, which will start construction in September. The 340,00-square-foot campus will start offering classes in fall 2020.
