Tarleton State University is now just one of many universities to partner with
Collin College to aid students transitioning from Collin College to Tarleton.
Though this partnership, Tarleton guarantees admission to Collin College students with 30 or more semester hours of transferrable college credit and with a GPA of 2.0 or better. Students with fewer than 30 hours must have a GPA of 2.8 or better, and those with fewer than 11 hours must meet Tarleton’s first-time freshman admission requirements.
Tarleton is a member of The Texas A&M University System and has campuses in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco and Midlothian.
“Tarleton State University is extending a tremendous opportunity to Collin College students through this partnership,” said Brenda Kihl, Collin College executive vice president, in a press release. “Guaranteed admission and detailed 2+2 degree plans will help guide students to complete both an associate's degree and bachelor’s degree without losing credit.”
A “reverse transfer” process will be offered in which Collin College students are allowed to complete their associate degree while working on a bachelor’s degree at Tarleton.
“This partnership expands a long and successful relationship between two institutions,” Tarleton Provost Karen Murray said in a statement. “Anything we can do to make it easier for students to continue and complete their education is a priority for us. Access to a high-quality, affordable four-year degree program should be available to anyone with the desire to pursue it, and our collaboration with Collin College provides that opportunity for many North Texas students.”
Last year, Collin College partnered with Texas A&M University-Commerce to bring university classes to the Preston Ridge Campus in Frisco.
Overall, Collin College partners with 11 universities to offer pre-admission programs for students to begin their university experience while attending Collin College.
Some of these universities include Baylor University, Texas Tech University, Texas Woman’s University, Texas Wesleyan University, The University if Texas at Dallas and University of North Texas.
Collin College serves more than 53,000 students and has campuses in Frisco, Plano and McKinney. The college also has two education centers in Allen and Rockwall.
