What’s happening?
Starting Jan. 16, two northbound lanes on I-35E between North Texas Boulevard and Bonnie Brae Street will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. overnight from Jan. 16-23, according to a social media post from TxDOT.
The northbound I-35E exit to southbound I-35W will be closed during these times, as well, and detour signs will be in place.
The post states there will be significant delays, and drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes.
The backstory
The construction at the I-35 split is part of a larger project on the I-35 corridor that will reconstruct and widen the four-lane highway to an eight-lane highway and widen the frontage road at this interchange, according to TxDOT.
The purpose of the project is to address congestion and public safety.
Construction of the $583 million started in the spring of 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2029, according to DriveTexas, which is part of TxDOT.
