The city of Denton and its surrounding area offer a variety of trails to explore that are connected to city parks.

For those looking to get outside and take in the nature North Texas has to offer, or for those who want a more leisurely stroll, take a look at nine trails and parks in the area.

Lost Pines Nature Trail

Located within the Ray Roberts Nature Center off Ray Roberts Lake, this trail is located at the Isle du Bois Unit and offers a view of the lake.

North Lakes Park and North Lakes Park Trail


North Lakes Park straddles Windsor Drive between two small lakes and encompasses the North Lakes Sports Complex with various outdoor fields.

The park also has two trails: one on the north side of the park and one that snakes down around the lake on the south side of the park.

Cooper Creek Trail Corridor

This concrete trail stops along several parks and access points, including Cooper Creek Linear Park, Cooper Glen Open Space, Evers Park and North Pointe Park.

Briercliff Park and Briercliff Park Trail

The 9.62-acre neighborhood park has a concrete trail, as well as playgrounds, a pavilion, picnic tables, a basketball court and soccer goals.


The trail consists of three segments that are all under 0.4 miles long.

Clear Creek Natural Heritage Area

This expansive trail has 14 segments for shorter hikes. It showcases diverse habitats and leads to more than 2,900 acres of woods, prairies and other natural habitats.

The city of Denton leases the land from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Clear Creek Natural Heritage Area, according to its website.

Cross Timbers Park South and Cross Timbers Park South Trail

Cross Timbers Park is a neighborhood park that includes a pond and the Cross Timbers Park South Trail. It offers hard and soft trails that offer nature walks combined with a woodland trail.

Denton Mountain Bike Trail


Located just outside Denton city limits, this trail is for biking enthusiasts looking to ease their way into the sport. The trail is multiuse, wider and not very technical for the beginner biker.

South Lakes Park; South Lakes Park Trail

Located by South Lakes Park, this trail is paved with some unpaved offshoots. The park has multiple pavilions, fishing spots and piers, soccer goals, tennis courts, a playground and dog stations.

Lake Forest Park Trail

Lake Forest Park is a 69.32-acre community park that has both soft surface and concrete trails in four segments. The park has a bigger soft-surface trail for those who want to get off the beaten path, along with a pavilion, playground, pond and basketball court.
