Q&A: Meet the candidates running for Denton City Council, District 2

Why are you running for office?

As a father and long-time Denton resident, I’m running for City Council because our families deserve safe parks, schools and neighborhoods. Compassion must include accountability. I will fight for consistent enforcement, real solutions to homelessness and leadership that protects both our children and our community.

What are the biggest challenges facing the city?

Denton’s biggest challenges - homelessness, housing affordability, and budgeting - are connected. We need balanced budgets, smart growth and compassionate but accountable policies. I’m running to ensure fiscal responsibility, protect neighborhoods and create practical solutions that make housing attainable while keeping our community safe and financially strong.

How do you plan to address these issues?

I will address these issues by prioritizing a balanced budget, cutting wasteful spending and demanding transparency. I support responsible development tied to infrastructure, enforcing existing laws while expanding accountable outreach for homelessness and promoting policies that increase housing supply without overburdening taxpayers or compromising neighborhood safety.

What would your top priorities be if you are elected?

If elected, my top priorities are restoring fiscal discipline with a balanced, transparent budget, enforcing existing public-safety ordinances while supporting accountable homelessness solutions, tying development to infrastructure capacity, and protecting neighborhoods by ensuring housing growth is responsible, sustainable and aligned with what Denton residents actually want and can afford.

Why are you running for office?

Denton is at a crossroads. At a time where 60% of our residents are living paycheck to paycheck and utility rates and property taxes have dramatically increased, Denton deserves thoughtful leadership that will work for everyone.

What are the biggest challenges facing the city?

Our biggest challenges are long delays on road construction, affordability and council dysfunction. For too long, council has been unable to reach consensus or collaborate— we need a new style of leadership willing to work with everyone.

How do you plan to address these issues?

I work in the construction profession and understand how to revise our contracts to make projects go faster. We need to increase economic development in order to bring in more revenue rather than increasing costs for neighbors. Finally, we need to treat everyone with kindness and respect.

What would your top priorities be if you are elected?

My top priorities include economic development focused on local entrepreneurs, construction that is accurate and on time, funding additional EMS lieutenants for the fire department and making Denton more affordable for everyone.
