Denton County has released unofficial early voting totals for the Denton ISD tax rate election.

Proposition A has 55.27% in favor, or 10,736 votes. Of early voting results, 8,690 voters, or 44.73% voted against the proposition.

What's on the ballot?

Voters are considering raising the tax rate to $1.2069 per $100 of assessed value.

This rate is 5 cents higher than the rate of $1.1569 per $100 of assessed value, which is the highest the district can set without a tax rate election and will be the district’s tax rate should voters deny the proposition.

If approved, the tax rate increase is expected to generate around $26.91 million in new revenue for the district, which would result in a projected surplus of more than $11 million. This would help address the district’s projected shortfall of $15 million. Officials plan to earmark funds to support costs associated with instruction, district operations, general administration and other services.
