On July 15, staff with contractor Pogue Construction and Chief Financial Officer Elizabeth Stewart updated the school board on elementary school, middle school and stadium construction projects, in addition to smaller ongoing ancillary renovation work.
The details
Crews completed construction July 12 on Jane Ruestmann Elementary School, and the building has passed all inspections, said Jason Davis, senior project manager of Pogue Construction. The project was completed within a year.
“Teachers are coming in on [July 22] to occupy the building,” Davis said.
The campus is part of the 2022 bond package, which funded building new schools to accommodate expected enrollment increases over the next decade, according to the district’s 10-year strategic plan. The campus will serve pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students and is situated along Cleveland Gibbs Road in Northlake.
“This is the earliest we have been in a new campus before school starts, and it's going to be great for the staff to move in and have everything there in time,” Stewart said.
What else?
In early July, the district received its third round of comments from the Argyle Town Council regarding the site grading plan for the new middle school along FM 407, and the district is poised to enter a fourth round of comments this summer, Stewart said.
The district broke ground on the campus in June. The new school, set to open in August 2026, was also part of the 2022 bond package and will serve grades 7-8, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
District officials said opening the new campus that school year will help meet the district’s strategic direction to transition to two middle schools in the 2026-27 school year and two high schools the following year. According to the plan, the middle school on FM 407 will serve grades 7-8 in the 2026-27 school year, providing enrollment relief at the US 377 middle school that will enable the high school split.
More details
After breaking ground on the new Argyle High School stadium and indoor activity center, the district’s site plans were approved by Flower Mound Town Council on July 11. The district submitted engineering plans July 10, Stewart said.
The stadium will seat 7,500 and will be located behind the AHS field house. The existing artificial turf field and track will be used for the new stadium. The indoor activity center on campus will be used by multiple teams and student groups, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
Also of note
Decisions about furniture refreshes at Hilltop Elementary School and Argyle Middle School, located off US 377, are set to come before the school board as information items in November with the board considering action in December, Stewart said.
Additionally, adaptive swings have been installed at Hilltop and Argyle West Elementary schools, which were the last remaining campuses needing the update, she said.
“These are very important to our students with special needs,” Superintendent Courtney Carpenter said.
