As summer temperatures in North Texas increase, The Salvation Army is offering a hand to those who are unable to escape the heat. On July 16, The Salvation Army opened 13 cooling stations across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including locations in Plano, Lewisville and McKinney. The cooling stations will provide relief for the homeless, people without air conditioning and people who have to work outside, according to a news release. The stations will offer cold water and an air-conditioned environment for people to stay all day or briefly cool off, according to the release. Cooling stations at The Salvation Army homeless shelters in Dallas at 5302 Harry Hines Blvd. and in Fort Worth at 1855 E. Lancaster Ave. will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Cooling stations will also be open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following Salvation Army community centers:

    • 3528 14th St., Plano
    • 206 W. Main St., Lewisville
    • 3023 NW 24th St., Fort Worth
    • 1508 E. McKinney St., Denton
    • 451 W. Ave. D, Garland
    • 250 E. Grauwyler Road, Irving
    • 712 W. Abram St., Arlington
    • 8341 Elam Road, Dallas
    • 1617 W. Jefferson Blvd., Dallas
    • 620 Farley St., Waxahachie
