Collin County Commissioners on Monday approved county staff to continue the condemnation proceedings to acquire right-of-way needed between Preston Road and the Dallas North Tollway, including the DNT interchange, for the Collin County Outer Loop.

The property owners were offered compensation for the nine parcels of undeveloped land but denied the offer. The county's offers were equal to or exceeded the fair market value of the property as appraised, according to the agenda item.

The county will continue the condemnation process to decide how much the county should pay for the land. If the county cannot continue negotiations with the property owners the matter will go to court, County Judge Keith Self said in an email.

The Collin County Outer Loop would extend east from Denton County across the city’s northern boundaries and south to SH 78. It is expected to act as a reliever to traffic on US 380 and SH 78.
