The McKinney City Council held a regularly scheduled meeting tonight that mainly consisted of housekeeping items and rezoning requests. However, two items drew significant resident input: dogs and the budget.

Effective April 18 dogs are OK on patios


City Council passed an ordinance allowing a food establishment with an outdoor patio under its exclusive ownership and control to allow dogs to be present in the outdoor patio area if the establishment obtains a variance from the city waiving the prohibition against dogs on the premises of the food establishment. Citizen input requested for budget 


The city's budget department held a citizen input hearing during tonight's council meeting asking for input on the upcoming fiscal year 2017-18 budget. Input will be reviewed by staff and will assist in the development of a recommended FY 2018 budget to be submitted from the city manager’s office to the City Council in August. Council will then consider the recommended budget and the public will have additional opportunities to offer input during two public budget hearings in September. A final budget is scheduled for adoption on Sept. 19. The following dates were included in the presentation:

  • June 19: Mid-Year Budget Update

  • June 20: Mid-Year Budget Amendment

  • July 25: Receive Certified Tax Roll

  • July 31: Tax Rate Record Vote

  • Aug. 4: Budget Work Session

  • Aug. 15: 1st Public Hearing on Tax Rate

  • Sept. 5: 1st Public Hearing on Budget, 2nd Public Hearing on Tax Rate

  • Sept. 19: 2nd Public Hearing on Budget & Final Budget Adoption, Ratification of Property Tax Revenue Increase, Tax Rate Adoption, Fee/Rate Change Adoption
