Fred Moses, a business owner, is running for Collin College board of trustees Place 1.
Nancy Wurzman, whose term ends in May, currently holds Place 1. However, Wurzman, has filed for Place 2. Greg Gomel is also running for the Place 1 seat.
Places 3 and 5 will also appear on the May 6 ballot.
Before the election, Community Impact Newspaper sent Moses a series of questions. His written responses, edited for publication style are below.
1. Why did you decide to run for the Collin College board of trustees?
As a small business owner, I know first-hand the importance of an educational system that meets the growing demands in business and industry. I look forward to serving alongside other trustees in directing the future of the college as Collin County continues to grow.
2. What experience do you think prepares you for serving on the board?
My extensive experience in serving on professional boards and commissions including the Collin College President’s Circle, the Plano Chamber of Commerce, the Plano Economic Development Board, the Texas General Services Commission, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulators Commission, the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, the [Plano ISD] Strategic Planning Finance Committee, and others, will bring organizational and strategic skills to the board.
3. What issues would you like to do address and how?
We have several issues facing Collin College. If elected, I will work to improve the campus’ infrastructure, increase marketing and outreach strategies throughout the county to grow our presence, cultivate workforce programs with businesses, expand the campus’ footprint and work with school districts to develop a technical school for our area.
