Frisco expands demand-response service McKinney City Council is still working to find a solution to the city's public transit issues. However, Frisco has access to public transit because of recent agreements with the Denton County Transportation Authority.
Frisco City Council approved extending and expanding its contract with the DCTA on Sept. 20, allowing the city's demand-response transit service to begin offering rides into a portion of Plano. DCTA has been offering services for elderly and disabled Frisco residents since December 2015, when the Texoma Area Paratransit Service ceased operations and left cities throughout North Texas in need of other options. Frisco residents can request rides from DCTA to work, to run errands or for medical visits. The service offers rides within Frisco and to McKinney and Allen. Expanded service into Plano will likely begin in November, according to Frisco officials. DCTA’s contract with Frisco would have expired in December, but Frisco City Council agreed to extend the contract through Nov. 30, 2017. The council also approved a pilot taxi partnership program with DCTA. The pilot program will allow ambulatory passengers—those who do not need assistance—to receive a taxi ride when a shuttle is not available at DCTA rates. Adding taxis to the transit service will allow any of the service vehicles to provide trips into Plano anywhere west of Coit Road—the new DCTA service area—where a majority of medical services are available. The fares and transit schedule will remain the same under the pilot program. For more information about DCTA’s demand-response transit service, click here or call 940-243-0077.
