The Collin County Commissioners Court approved designating a closed point of dispensing site in the city of Plano.
A point of dispensing site, or a POD site, is a location that people can go to receive medications or vaccinations in the event of a public health emergency.
In the case of an emergency, the public would be directed to a public POD, which can serve up to 800,000 people within 36 to 48 hours. A closed POD site serves a subset of the population, such as city employees and their families, to relieve some of the stress of public sites.
In the agreement between the county and the city, Plano will plan and execute the necessary measures to disperse medications to residents and its employees. The Department of Homeland Security within Collin County will assist the city with its preparations.
