From local job fairs to proposed liquor stores, here's your weekly roundup of things going on in Allen.

1. Full 'STEAM' ahead

On a night where the nation's attention will turn to the first U.S. presidential debate of the general election season, presumably not every parent will make it to tonight's Allen ISD Board of Trustees meeting. That said, Community Impact Newspaper will be there to cover the goings on. The board will discuss a nearly 10-acre land purchase to expand the space available for the district's planned Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics Center, according to district spokesperson Tim Carroll. The land under consideration is adjacent to a 16-acre plot donated for the STEAM Center. Trustees will also discuss plans for landscape revitalization and local innovation. For the full meeting agenda, click here. Those not at the meeting can follow our Twitter account (@communityimpact_afv) starting at 7 p.m. to keep up with the latest. An article will also be posted on our homepage following the meeting.

2. Liquor on the agenda

The Allen City Council on Tuesday will consider a special-use permit for a Total Wine & More store looking to move into The Village at Allen. Residents voted to legalize liquor sales in May. The full agenda can be found here.

3. 'Back to Work' in Allen

The Allen Event Center concourse will host the "Putting Texans Back to Work" job fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. The event, organized by radio broadcasting company Cumulus Media, has been advertised widely on local radio stations. To learn more, visit the event website.
