The Cy-Fair ISD board of trustees will hear an update on the district's general budget and review a lengthy list of policy revisions during its April 9 work session and April 13 regular meeting.
At a glance
With fiscal year 2026-27 budget adoption slated for June, the CFISD administration will present the board with an update on the district's general operating budget, including estimated shortfalls and revenues. The board will continue to workshop budget specifics over the next two months, with a special-called budget meeting scheduled for 5 p.m. May 21.
CFISD's Chief Financial Officer Karen Smith shared a breakdown of the district's finances for FY 2025-26, which ends June 30, during the board's March 2 regular meeting.
She said the estimated FY 2025-26 shortfall is trending at approximately $33 million instead of the previously projected $45.5 million, but the amount may fluctuate as more information becomes available, Community Impact previously reported.
Also on the agenda
The board will consider revisions to more than a dozen district policies as well as a second read of proposed artificial intelligence guidelines, which would establish the first standardized approach to AI learning in CFISD. Trustees discussed a first draft of the policy March 2, and several community members spoke in favor of incorporating the technology in and out of the classroom.
If approved, AI tools may only be used with teacher permission, and would never replace teacher and student decision-making, according to a draft of the policy.
Other policy revisions on the table include:
- Student and parent complaints and grievances
- Employment requirements and restrictions
- Compensation and benefits
- Contract nonrenewals
- Student safety
Additionally, the board will review recommendations from the superintendent related to annual contracts for the 2026-27 school year for teachers, administrators and professionals, according to the agenda.
