Q&A: Meet the Republican primary candidates running to represent State House District 138 — The March primary election will include the Republican primary for State House District 138. (Courtesy Adobe Stock)

Two Republican candidates are running to represent State House District 138 in the upcoming March primary election. The incumbent representative is Lacey Hull, who is running for re-election. Jared Woodfill is also running in the Republican primary but did not respond to the questionnaire before press time.

The district covers parts of the Cy-Fair area, including Jersey Village.

Why are you running for this position?

I'm running on my proven conservative record, including passing record funding for border security, landmark pro-life and pro-Second Amendment reforms, protecting children from explicit performances and curriculum, banning gender modification for minors, made voter fraud a felony, and passed the largest property tax cut in history.

What are the biggest challenges facing the district, and how would you address them if elected?

I am fighting to keep our community and schools safe. So far I have successfully fought to ban cities from defunding the police and for crucial bail reforms. More must be done; we must pass a Constitutional Amendment to prevent repeated violent offenders getting out on low cash/[personal recognizance] bonds.

What changes would you like to see made to the state's school finance system, if any?

More must be done to ensure our education funding follows the student and funds the classroom, not the bureaucracy. Parents should have more control to ensure leftist indoctrination, critical race theory and inappropriate content stay out of the classroom and that their children are learning. Recapture must be reformed.

How would you ensure your constituents have access to the health care services they need?

As a member of both the insurance and Human Services committee (Medicaid oversight), I've seen that coverage doesn’t mean access to health care. We must champion innovative solutions to ensure Texans have access to necessary medications at affordable prices, and continue to ensure mothers and babies have the care they need.

How would you build productive relationships across districts and party lines?

While I never sacrifice my principles and the values of those who have elected me, much of the work we do in the Legislature is nonpartisan. I am always happy to work across the isle if that is what it takes to accomplish pro-liberty, pro-family and free market economic reforms.
