Cy-Fair ISD announced today that Michael Smith will be the first principal for Bridgeland High School, the district’s 12th comprehensive high school. Smith will be moving from his position as Cy-Fair High School’s principal.
Smith began his career in 1990 as a math teacher at Langham Creek High School and has been with the district ever since. He went on to serve as assistant principal at Langham Creek for eight years before moving on to the principal position at Dean Middle School in 2002. In January 2008, he took over as principal at Cy-Fair High School.
“I am very excited and am looking forward to the opportunity of working with the staff, students, parents and the community to open Bridgeland High School and make it a school that we can be proud of,” Smith said in a news release.
Smith received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Harding University and his Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University. His move will be effective Jan. 2, 2017, officials said.
Set to open next August at the Grand Parkway and the future Bridgeland Creek Parkway, Bridgeland High School will serve 3,300 students. The school will feature a four-story academic wing, a commons building and a sports complex. It will be part of a master-planned campus site including Elementary School No. 55 and a future middle school.
