In the early stages of opening X-Factor Sports Training, owner Jeremy Conley envisioned creating a facility that catered to people with different skill levels and goals. He also wanted a place where student athletes could go for guidance and, most importantly, a place where people saw results.

“My whole thing is seeing people meet and exceed their goals, the happiness on their faces,” he said. “That’s what keeps me motivated. I’d rather help a kid who was on the B team in eighth grade make the A team in high school than make a million dollars running a mediocre gym.”

The facility opened in September, but Conley said the idea of owning a gym extends back to when he was a student at Cypress Woods High School in 2010. Conley opened the gym after saving $30,000 working for his parents and through odd jobs.

Today he and fellow trainer Michael Owens provide programs for individuals and teams, which can include one-on-one time, nutrition plans and specialized athletic training. Clients often stop by during open gym just to hang out.

“I just wanted to open a place where people in the community could gather and support each other,” Conley said. “We started with two clients, but that rose to 25 after football season started. After that I started getting a lot of calls just from word-of-mouth.”

Conley, a former all-state running back for the Cy-Woods varsity football team, said his style of training puts focus on technique and injury prevention. The personalization of each program goes beyond what clients get at chain gyms, he said.

“We don’t prioritize athletes over our other clients,” Conley said. “I put together personal programs for everyone I work with, from the 7- and 8-year-olds to the 55-year-olds.”

Conley said he works at the gym every day of the week, including Sundays, which is technically his day off.

“It’s a lot of work, but we’ve helped a lot of people,” he said.
