What you need to know
Four candidates are running for the three seats on the five-member Harris County ESD9 board of commissioners: incumbents Cameron Dickey and Naressa MacKinnon, and Daniel Arizpe and Deborah Shepler. The district supports fire suppression and emergency medical services for the Cy-Fair Fire Department.
Voters could choose up to three candidates from a single nonpartisan list. The top three vote-getters win four-year terms, so no runoff is required.
The board voted in May to move the election from May 2027 to the November ballot, citing higher turnout in a midterm year.
The background
Candidates cited growth as the district's biggest challenge, including the need for more stations and staff. At its Oct. 29 meeting, the board received positive financial and HR audit results for the CFFD.
